My Story

“Creating art from a block of lumber is where all of my inspiration comes from.”

This is The Turning Post

My name is Jesse Horn, and I am the CEO and owner of The Turning Post. The Turning Post was established in 2010.

I am a woodturner, woodworker, instructor, and producer residing in Oklahoma City, OK specializing in one-of-a-kind, customized and handcrafted woodturnings and woodworks. I specialize in making writing pens, funeral urns, vases, bowls, wine bottle stoppers, Christmas ornaments, ornamental birdhouses, jewelry rings, peppermills, cutting boards, charcuterie boards, and duck calls.

I began my woodworking experience in 1994 by purchasing my first tools from Sears and creating crafts while participating in several craft shows in Oklahoma and Arkansas. In 2002, I took my first pen turning class at the Woodcraft Store on Tulsa, OK and found myself hooked. Within months I was turning peppermills, creating traditional peppermills and replicating lighthouses and the Seattle Space Needle. Since the early beginnings, expanding over a 20-year period, I have found that I enjoy creating artwork with a Soutwest theme.  I have taken this idea to create projects such as burial urns, hollowed pottery, and Christmas ornaments. Creating customized and handmade projects allows The Turning Post to put value into the customer’s hands.

In 2003, I began instructing pen turning, peppermill, bowl, and woodturning 101 classes for the newly opened Woodcraft Store in Oklahoma City, teaching three classes per month. During my 20 years of woodturning, I have been blessed to have learned from some of the best woodturners such as the late Dale Nish, Provo, Utah and the late Bob Fulton, Broken Arrow, OK.  I find it fulfilling designing and creating a one-of-a-kind piece of art.  But my most gratifying moment is instructing and watching my students design and create their own work of art.

The Turning Post is a company founded by Jesse Horn, who has been instructing and creating finely detailed woodturnings since 2002. I have taught classes at the Woodcraft store located in Oklahoma City since August 2003. These classes include peppermills, pens, bowls, duck calls, ornaments, and the 101 beginning instructional woodturning classes.

The Turning Post’s mission is to deliver a high quality, one-of-a-kind, product dedicated to the needs of our consumer. My love for instructing has led me back to Woodcraft, where I continue to provide instructional classes.

My classes include step-by-step instructions for that day’s project, safety guidelines and sharpening techniques.  These classes are conducted at Woodcraft located at 9301 North May Avenue in Oklahoma City, OK.

Here, at the Turning Post, we continue to create new ideas, turn new projects, and achieve premium satisfaction for our customer’s needs.

Information pertaining to classes may be obtained by contacting me at 405-777-3263 or by email: jwhorn1@hotmail.com.  You may also contact Woodcraft at 405-748-8844.  Each class will be listed on my Facebook, Instagram, and Woodcraft’s Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/WoodcraftOkc
