With Jesse Horn
TBA
Skill Level: Intermediate-Advanced
Class size: 1-3
Tools required: Face shield or safety glasses, 3/8” spindle gouge, parting tool, roughing gouge, calipers, ruler, pencil, and dust mask. PJ1 Duck Call Jig (optional- $40 - $110, ask Jesse) Easy Wood Mid-Sized Hollower No. 1 (Optional)
This class is designed to enhance your spindle turning and tool sharpening skills, and creative design. The class will begin with Jesse providing safety tips and a quick recap of woodturning 101. This will lead into Jesse demonstrating how to properly sharpen a turning tool using the Wolverine Sharpening Jig. Each student will be taught the step-by-step procedures for laying out and turning a duck call and will be provided a set of instructions for future reference. Two options of duck calls will be provided to each student to choose from. Option 1 will allow the student to turn the barrel, wooden insert, construct the sound board (this will require the purchase of the PJ1 duck call jig from Jesse), and tune the duck call. The second option will allow the student to turn a barrel and a plastic insert will be provided to finish the duck call. The sound has been preset by the factory, for this method. The class will be using exotic woods, so a dust mask and face protection, is a must. The required mandrel, collets, and drill bits will be provided. If the student is interested in turning a duck call (old school), the PJ1 duck call jig will be required and will be on hand for purchase. Whether you decide on making a duck call, via old school, or elect to use a plastic insert, the student will leave with a beautiful duck call. All wood, plastic insert, reeds, cork, mandrel, collets, drill bit, and turning tools will be provided.
